Building & Standards Commission

Overview

The Building and Standards Commission is responsible for reviewing and ruling on cases involving alleged violations of Chapter 22 – Buildings and Building Regulations of the City Code. This includes addressing unsafe or substandard structures and ensuring compliance with city building standards. The commission may order repairs, demolition, or other corrective actions to protect public health and safety. Its decisions help maintain safe, code-compliant properties throughout the City of Palestine.

Commission Membership

  • The commission consists of seven members and up to four alternate members, appointed by the City Council.
  • Members serve two-year terms and may continue to serve until a successor is appointed. 
  • No member may be appointed for more than two consecutive terms unless approved by a majority vote of the City Council.

Meeting Schedule

  • When: 4th Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m., or as needed
  • Where: City Council Chambers
  • Public Access: Meetings are open to the public and follow all requirements of the Texas Open Meetings Act.
