Zoning Board Of Adjustments & Appeals

Overview

The Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals considers requests for exceptions, variances, and appeals related to zoning and airport regulations when doing so serves the public interest and does not negatively impact neighboring properties. The board may hear appeals of administrative decisions, grant special exceptions or variances, allow certain modifications for nonconforming uses or uniquely shaped properties, and oversee the gradual discontinuance of nonconforming land uses. All decisions are made with public notice, a hearing, and consideration of property rights and community welfare.

Board Membership

  • The board consists of five members, appointed by the City Council.
  • Members serve two-year terms but may continue to act after the end of their term until a successor is appointed by the City Council.
  • A member of the board may not be appointed for more than two consecutive terms unless approved by a majority of the City Council.
